What is Perimenopause?

Perimenopause is a natural phase that typically begins several years before menopause. Hormones change and have an impact on our lives.

This period can start as early as your late 30s or 40s and lasts until menopause, which is defined as 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period.

During perimenopause, women may experience a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms due to fluctuating hormone levels. These symptoms can vary greatly.

Many women are unsure if they are in perimenopause, attributing these symptoms to aging or other life stressors. It’s important to recognise these signs early on, as understanding what your body is going through can help you manage these changes more effectively.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms and they’re impacting your quality of life, you’re not alone.

My holistic counselling  for perimenopause service is here to support you through this transition, offering strategies to manage both the emotional and physical challenges of perimenopause.

The Heart Behind My Work

Perimenopause can feel like an isolating experience, filled with a lack of motivation, feelings of being down, and old wounds resurfacing. I’ve walked this path and know how hard it is to find the right support. Many of us face misunderstanding from family, friends, and even health professionals. We weren’t taught to talk about these changes—there’s often shame and guilt that keeps us silent.

Through my work as a counsellor, I’ve seen and heard from countless women who are struggling with these very challenges. I believe every woman deserves a safe space to be heard, supported, and understood during perimenopause. You don’t have to go through this alone.

Perimenopause can bring mental and emotional impacts, including:

    • Anxiety (even if you’ve never experienced it before)
    • Depression
    • Panic attacks
    • Anger & Rage
    • Brain fog – difficulty concentrating at work
    • Grieving the loss of youth
    • Feeling distressed about bodily changes and societal pressure to maintain a ‘youthful’ appearance
    • Disconnection to our body
    • Changes in libido and their impact on relationships
    • Aches and pains
    • Feeling invisible in society
    • Uncertainty about your purpose or role
    • Loss of confidence, joy, and sense of self.

In our one-on-one counselling sessions, we’ll work together to address these challenges and help you navigate this transformative stage with confidence and resilience.
